Spring Updates from TambraPlace!

Soon there will be more than daffodils rising from the ground on our land in West End!

After a long search for the right builder, we are excited to be partnering with Godon Construction to build our new girls' home. It will house up to four residents plus one Resident Advisor and has been thoughtfully planned by local designer Diane Rives to help us provide a private, safe environment for the girls. We are working through pre-construction requirements for our funding at this time and have our eyes on May or early June as the target for breaking ground. Stay tuned to our newsletter and social media updates for more updates as we progress, and please reach out if you have related expertise or materials you'd like to offer once construction begins!

Just a reminder, this will be our third TambraPlace house. Our original girls’ home will be converted into a combination administrative space for TambraPlace and a temporary short-term and emergency housing.

Our new build will be named ChristineHaven in honor of TambraPlace’s Vice-Chair, Dr. Christine Ganis.

A Huge Thank You!

Since November 2025 (after our Gala event back in October) TambraPlace has received approximately $25,000 in anonymous donations and grants over and above our projected operational expenses that we are therefore dedicating to building expenses for ChristineHaven. For those of you keeping track, that puts us much closer to paying off our $284,000 building loan, but we have a long way to go before we reach our goal. Please join us in giving a huge thank you to these anonymous donors. We know who you are, and we appreciate you!

New Online Donation Portal!

Speaking of donations, TambraPlace has a brand-new portal for online donations. You can reach this online donation portal through our website, or by clicking on THIS LINK.

You may choose to donate to our general operations or towards our new building fund and have the option to set up ongoing donations.

Without our donors, we would have no TambraPlace.

Thank you!

What is TambraPlace?

Homelessness and Youth:

According to the most recent data collection from the North Carolina Housing Coalition, homelessness in North Carolina rose 19% in 2024 (Annual Homelessness Assessment Report, January 30, 2025 – nchousing.org.) The problem has continued into 2025 and 2026, with no end in sight in our increasingly volatile housing market and with current cost of living increases.

“An estimated 4.2 million young people between the ages of 13 and 25 experience homelessness in the United States every year, according to the National Runaway Safeline. Many are leaving unsafe homes, couch surfing, or struggling to meet basic needs”

“…youth homelessness is often misunderstood because many young people aren’t sleeping on the streets – they are staying with friends, bouncing between homes, or living in unstable environments”  There is a rise in homelessness among young adults ages 22 and older, a growing group struggling to transition to independence” (from an abc11.com report published November 16, 2025: “Millions of Young People Face Homelessness Nationwide, Including in NC: How to Help.”)

Objectives of TambraPlace:

The TambraPlace Young Women's and Young Men’s Transitional Homes of Moore County, NC, is a residential program that supports and meets the needs of Young Women and Young Men, ages 18-24. We provide a safe, nurturing and empowering environment to serve youth who are:

·       At-Risk For Failing Without Intervention

·       Facing Homelessness

·       Transitioning From Child Welfare Services and Foster Care

·       Potential Abuse Victims

Goals:

The goal of the TambraPlace program is to help prevent a lifetime of dependence on the state with a cost-effective, short-term investment in independent living which challenges participants to grow emotionally, spiritually, socially and financially in ways they often have not considered. Our overarching service strategy is to provide educational support and therapeutic services in a home setting while providing an environment that fosters social skills and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in order to be successful.

TambraPlace serves young women and young men with currently two homes and a third on the way, working to cure the recidivism of homelessness by helping youth who have aged out of foster care.

Our general fund is crucial in providing immediate financial support to those in urgent need within our community. Our building fund helps us repay our $284,000 interest-free building loan.

It’s an exciting time at TambraPlace, and we need more committed area volunteers to make it happen. If you are interested in serving, please contact us here: ywthmoore@gmail.com

Volunteer: There are often opportunities to serve TambraPlace. We do Spring/Summer garden clean ups, home repairs, fundraising, product and goods donation drives, and more. Just email us at ywthmoore@gmail.com to learn more and/or sign up to volunteer.

Thank you for reading! Have a beautiful Spring!
